The Supreme Court of Washington in a 6-3 vote, has ruled that the recently passed Tim Eyeman sponsored Initiative I-1053 is unconstitutional- This action overrules the supremacy of the people, as outlined in the Washington State Constitution. I-1053 simply requires that any tax increase be passed by a 2/3 majority in both the Washington State House and Senate. Read this great post by The Freedom Foundation, explaining the issue.
This ruling strikes out against the Tea Party Patriot’s core principals of fiscal responsibility and limited government. We encourage all our State Groups to reach out to your local State Representatives and Senators and tell them you support a constitutional amendment to require a 2/3 majority vote of the House and Senate for any bill that increased taxes on the people of Washington State.
Also, please sign the “Restore the 2/3s” petition sponsored by the Freedom Foundation.

At the most recent meeting of the Liberty 21 meeting (formerly Agenda 21) – our very own Larry Costello gave a fabulous presentation on Smart Meters – The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. Detailing his own struggles with his utility company in North Bend, he provided invaluable information on what Smart Meters are, what they they look like, how they work and potential concerns. The day following his presentation, Fox News showed video of a woman from Naperville, Illinois that was arrested for refusing to allow her utility company to change her working meter for a “smart meter”. Read Larry’s outstanding overview of Smart Growth, Smart Grid and Smart Meters below. Gov – Sustainability Smart Growth, Grid, Meter Overview

Our Washington State Coordinator wishes us a Happy New Year and reflects upon her visit to Nicaragua. Rich in abundant resources, Nicaragua was developing into a prosperous, industrialized nation until the Socialists came to power in 1979. Read her reflections on how the redistribution of wealth, corruption, and dependence on handouts transformed the country into the second poorest in the Western Hemisphere. Message from Nicaragua
